FAQ
What is charcuterie?
Originally, the term charcuterie just applied to a selection of meats but the term has been co-opted to include cheese, nuts, fruits, spreads and many other yummy things!
How in the world do I say “charcuterie”?

What is the Perfect Bite?
We work hard to curate our Madison Cheese Boards so each one has as many potential combinations of meats, cheeses, fruits and spreads as possible. Included with each board is a guide with suggested pairings that we call Perfect Bites!
What size board should I order?
Suggested serving sizes are listed on the product page for each board. Here’s a quick rundown:
- Small 2-4 people
- Medium 4-6 people
- Large 6-15 people
- Extra Large 15-20 people
Use the larger number if it’s the main event or the smaller number if folks at your party are just grazing!
How does your pick up and delivery process work?
You can pre-order on our website for both pick up and delivery. We do ask that you pre-order two days in advance - if you’re looking to have a cheese board on Saturday, just get your order in by noon on Thursday!
Pick up is free & you can grab your pre-ordered board at Pasture & Plenty during their business hours on your selected pick up date! (Tuesday-Friday from 11am-7pm; Saturday from 9am-2pm)
We offer delivery on Saturday from 10am-1pm for a small fee based on your location in Madison.
If you’re looking for any weekday catering deliveries, order minimums will apply. Contact us here to discuss more.
What is the board served on?
We use 100% eco-friendly, biodegradable, natural palm leaf platters. The boards have no dyes, toxins, or chemicals and help the planet because they are 100% compostable. They are lightweight yet durable, making them easy to transport and ensuring that they won’t break.
When should I serve the board?
You can store your Madison Cheese Board in the fridge for up to two days prior to serving. We recommend unwrapping the board and letting it sit for 45 minutes at room temperature prior to enjoying. This allows the cheese to come up to temperature and taste its best. Don’t store your included crackers in the fridge.
Why aren’t the crackers on my board?
Imagine: You follow our guide for the Perfect Bite - starting with a cracker...adding salami & a piece of cheddar cheese...topping it with a small drizzle of honey. As you take a bite the refrigerated cracker falls apart in your mouth. No crunch, no snap and a soggy, lifeless experience. All Madison Cheese Boards come with crackers separate from the actual charcuterie board. Plus you’re getting more meat and cheese without crackers filling up the board!
Can I pick the cheeses for my board?
A good charcuterie board is about the experience of combining different tastes and textures. We’ve surveyed our taste testers who said they would rather leave it to the experts to pick the cheeses for their board. Each week we will choose local Wisconsin cheeses and meats that we feel are Perfect Bites for you. If you really hate cheddar, or your partner is in love with bleu cheese - let us know in the notes at checkout and we will try our best to accommodate within reason. If you have any questions, please contact us here.
Is everything on the board edible?
Mostly! The wax rind on a cheese like Manchego is not edible and some of the garnish is technically edible, but you wouldn’t eat a mint leaf or rosemary sprig under other circumstances right?
Can I contact you for my wedding/shower/business event/pet’s birthday?
Yes! We specialize in small orders such as charcuterie cups to large orders such as grazing tables. Please contact us here.
Do you offer any classes?
We offer public and private workshops where we we will teach you how to make your own very own cheese board! Visit our Workshops page for more information.
Do you make those grazing tables I see on Instagram?!
Sure do! Visit our Grazing Tables page for more information.
Can I order for my corporate event?
Of course! Nothing boosts team morale like meat and cheese! Contact us here to discuss charcuterie cups, small boxes and even team-building workshops.
Can you accommodate my allergy or dietary preferences?
Absolutely! Please make sure to note any preferences in the notes field for your order. We can make our cheese boards with no meat, no nuts, gluten free, etc. if we know ahead of time. Please know that all food is stored and prepared in a common shared kitchen with the risk of exposure to allergens. See our Allergy Statement for more info.
